It's the Curse of "Murder She Wrote"! The killer was the most
well-known guest star (Peter Graves). I knew that from the episode
preview. (It didn't help that the whole plot was obvious from the
beginning as well). It keeps happening - Cold Case, Crossing Jordan

I'm surprised the writers didn't throw more red herrings into the
mix--or double back to a character they dismissed earlier (in this case,
the husband who got angry with the reporter's advice to his wife. If it
had turned out he had known the truth about Graves' character and helped
smuggle him in for whatever reasons, that would have been an unexpected
twist.)

(yeah, Billy Mumy was hired for one small scene and 2 lines during the
first 52 minutes - right!), L&O...

I'd guess a majority of the Cold Case audience isn't aware
of Peter Graves and never heard of Billy Mumy.
I'm a regular viewer of Cold Case and had to rewind to the
beginning of the show to find the name of the old time
TV character who appeared late in the episode.
I couldn't "put a name on the face" when I first saw him
in the show. I don't watch coming attractions.
The only reason I knew "Timmy's" mother (June Lockhart) from "Lassie"
would soon make a guest appearance was because she appeared
as a guest on a local Los Angeles morning TV program. Had I not
known she would be on the show (from the clip) I would not have
recognized or remembered her.

On the better L&O eps., they either have a batch of guest-stars who are
all equally-good suspects--or they play on the audience expecting the
perp to be a guest star and have it turn out to be someone else.

Come on Holllywood. There's got to be a better way to do this. It's no
wonder nobody watches this stuff any more...
