CHICAGO, IL, United States (UPI) -- Respected Chicago film critic Roger

Yeah, I didn't make myself very clear. I wasn't exactly comparing
Kiefer to Glen Campbell. But I was trying to equate his unfortunate
speech mannerism in Dark City to everything about Glen Campbell in True
Grit. Both stuck out like sore thumbs in otherwise excellent movies;
both annoyed me to the point that while watching the movies I wanted
them to just go away; to stop that right now; cut it out; cease;
desist. That's all I meant. Kiefer Sutherland is a competent actor
who misjudged a performance, in my most humble opinion.

Ebert announced he will undergo surgery for a fourth recurrence of
cancer two days before his 64th birthday.

What do you expect? The fat boy has been sitting on his ass eating
buttered popcorn, milk duds and corndogs for the past 40 years
watching movies and telling us if they pass his leftist standards or
not. Does anybody really care?

More than will ever, ever care about you...

The Chicago Sun-Times movie critic and host of TV`s 'Ebert & Roeper'
said a cancerous growth on his salivary gland will be removed June 16,
the newspaper reported Thursday.
'It is not life threatening, and I expect to make a full recovery,' he
said, adding doctors do think radiation will be necessary. 'I`ll
continue to function as a film critic during this time.'
Ebert underwent surgery and radiation in 2002 and 2003 for cancer on
his thyroid and salivary glands.
'This is known as a slow growing and persistent cancer,' he said. 'You
live with it.'

That explains his change in appearance. A while back - maybe a couple years
ago - I caught E&R after having not seen it for some time and was startled
at his change in appearance.
His skin sagged with the look of a large person who had lost a lot of
weight and he seemed to talk out of one side of his mouth as if a stroke had
paralyzed his right side.
Now I'm assuming it was due to the effects of the cancer and treatment.

We had the same response around here. After moving across country, it
took us a while to find the show again, and we were shocked by his
change in appearance.
Didn't Gene Siskel die of a brain tumor? What's in Chicago's water,
anyway?

Well, they put green dye in the river on March 17 every year and the

I personally believe the extent of his change in appearance is not due
to the cancer. I think he probably had a stroke, or a mini-stroke, and
opted to keep it secret. The apparent paralysis on one side of his
mouth is no side effect of any radiation I've ever heard of.

As I understand it, it is cancer-related. One of his surgeries was near the

I tuned in to E&R last night. Not as pronounced but he does seem to talk
out of the right side of his mouth and is skin isn't quite so saggy.

Kiefer was clearly channelling Lorre in "Dark City". If you didn't
already see that point you have a problem.
billanderson...
|
Yeah, I have lots of problems, but it had never occurred to me that
failing to discern the spirit of Peter Lorre in Kiefer Sutherland's
Dark City performance was one of them.
The New York Times reviewer compared him to a "punked-out Vincent
Price." I don't see that either. But I did Google "Kiefer" with
"Lorre" and "Dark City" and I see that many reviewers agree with you.
I liked the Deseret News comment: "[Kiefer Sutherland] whose halting
delivery sounds eerily like William Shatner impersonating Peter Lorre."
So there you go ... he was channeling Peter Lorre. Ineptly and
annoyingly.

But MAN Roeper sure has porked out. He looks like he's gained 50 lbs.
Definitely something in the popcorn at that show.

Actually, the weight loss is due to the Pritikin diet, according to
Ebert.
Don't know about the talking out one side of his mouth.

Eastwood, told me he had had his whole thyroid gland removed, with
radiation. He looks twenty years younger than his age, and he added to
never worry about (possible) thyroid cancer because more than likely
you'll die of something else waiting for it to kill you.
Apparently the thyroid gland is sufficiently self-contained to implode
without catastrophic affects. Hope Mr. Ebert is up and at 'em fast.

Actually, one form of Thyroid cancer is the most fatal cancer there is
with a life expectancy after diagnosis of about 6 months max.
But Ebert doesn't have it.

Could you get that kind, please?

You'll probably die of Karposi's sarcoma.

First Siskel, then Ebert.... Maybe they panned a schlock horror flick, and
the Jason/Freddy/Mikey/whoever is getting revenge.
Let's see what happens to Roeper when the show becomes Roeper & ______
