Seriously, it's almost as if someone circulated a memo this year among
all the show runners saying, "Hey, let's all shoot one major character
in the finale!"

While we're at it, what's up with about 4 different threads on this same
subject?!! LOL

Weird, I looked but didn't see any other threads on the topic. Nice to
know I'm not the only one who noticed, though.

I suspect the only way someone might not have noticed is if they only watch
one program. Watch a few, and it was hard to miss the trend.

They resort to gimmicks instead of good writing in some cases.

At least with "Numb3rs" it was only a dream. None of the good guys got
shot in this episode. That's just as well since they already had one
get shot in a previous episode.

Yeah, but this particular "gimmick" lets the producers "write out" any
actors that push for too big of a raise.

"Bones," for one.
(Probably others that I'm forgetting too; that one jumps to mind
because someone in a different thread wrongly included it in their
list of shows with shootings in their season-enders.)

Gilmore Girls didn't this year (they did 'proposed to' last year). There
were tons of rumors that they would do 'pregnant' (Lorelai, Rory, or
both), but they didn't.
Now if you add 'broken up with', that gets both GG and HIMYM in the door.

It didn't even have to be shoot. On "Close to Home" tonight, the
main character's husband is killed in a car accident. It just seemed
to me to be an extension of all the shootings of the main characters on
all kinds of shows this week.

I think it's a fad that will pass by next year. It's just so commonplace
now. By next year, writers will think twice about bumping off characters in
'shocking' ways because it just won't be shocking anymore.
The sweeps "wedding" will definitely be making a comeback!
Were there *any* sweeps weddings this year? I can't recall a single one.
