Fox orders two pilots; "ER" may shift nights
By Nellie Andreeva
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Fox Broadcasting Co. has
jumpstarted more of its 2006-07 primetime schedule with early pickups
for two drama pilots, "Primary" and "American Crime."
"Primary" stars Ron Livingston and Rosemarie DeWitt as hostage
negotiators who balance their budding relationship and their job.

This show is incredibly redundant. We already have "Bones". Why do we
need another (with a weaker cast)?!
|
"American Crime," featuring "Alias" veteran Victor Garber, is an
ensemble about high-profile defense attorneys.

Pass.
(FOX has gone "conventional". This is never good....)

They join drama pilot "Vanished" and comedy pilot "'Til Death," in
getting series orders from Fox well in advance of the broadcast
networks' fall schedule unveilings, set to take place next week in New
York. Buzz was building on Friday that Fox was eyeing a renewal of the
domestic comedy "The War at Home" as a possible companion to "'Til
Death," which stars Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher as a
long-married couple.
There also was speculation that Fox was looking to resurrect the
animated series "Futurama," from "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening,
on its Sunday lineup the same way that "Family Guy" was brought back
last year. The network has an option for new episodes, which currently
are being produced for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim late-night block.

If true, then woohoo indeed. However, things have changed so often that
I refuse to get excited until something pretty official comes out.
I'll stick with cautious optimistism.
Patrick Joseph McNamara...
|
I think it's because Groening is looking at Futurama because The Simpsons is
getting just too old to continue.

Maybe he should get off his lazy butt and be creative and come up w/
something new. Then again, from garbage 'Family Guy' came the spawn of
archang...

He did. Futurama. Fox never really got it, and never promoted
it. (Sticking it at 7 pm on Sunday and then promoting their Sunday nights
with "It all starts at eight!" ring a bell?)

'American Dad!'. NOT so great.

Meanwhile, the chatter also was beginning to build last week that NBC
is eyeing a move of its veteran drama "ER" out of the Thursday 10 p.m.
slot that has been its home since the series premiered in 1994. There
was speculation that the network could look to bolster its fortunes on
Tuesday or Wednesday by shifting "ER" to a 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. slot and
pair it with "Law & Order" or "Law & Order: SVU." NBC's new drama
"Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," which earned its formal greenlight
last week, was said to be the contender for the Thursday 10 p.m. berth
if "ER" moves.

If NBC does this, it shows they've learned nothing by moving L&O from
it's home. They do this and ER is dead. Now, I don't watch ER and I
don't like ER, but I certainly don't wish ill of it. Many of it's fans
watch out of habit. Move it to Tuesday where it faces House/The Unit
and Wednesday where it faces Lost/American Idol seems like sentencing
the show to death. Then maybe that's the point, I guess.
|
At ABC, the industry's focus was centered last week on whether a move
was in store for Sunday dynamos "Desperate Housewives" or "Grey's
Anatomy." There was talk that "Housewives" could be headed for a
Monday berth, as ABC prepares for its first fall launch without
"Monday Night Football" in 36 years, and that "Grey's" could be bumped
up from its current 10 p.m. slot to 9 p.m. Sunday in order to give a
new show the benefit of its lead-in.

If they have to move something (and I'm not saying they should), I think
the better bet would be GA on Monday. Depending on the shows they put
around it, it could be a anchor for that night.
|
Ian J. Ball...
|
I agree with everyone else here - move GA to Mondays; keep DH where it
is.

The pilot pickup picture at ABC is still hard to read, but good vibes
seem to be surrounding drama "Day Break," starring Taye Diggs as a
cop on the run; an untitled bank-heist drama; as well as "Drift," "Six

Sounds like a spin on Prison Break.

Didn't they learn anything from Heist?

Because that show sounds interesting. But another "Heist" we do not

I don't even remember what "Drift" is. "Ugly Betty" seems like a great

bubble for renewals, are said to be looking good to return.

Which shows you how desperate they are for comedies. On CBS these shows
would've been pulled a long time ago.

George Lopez has already hit the magic 100 episodes needed/desired for
syndication so drop it.

CBS is said to be poised to add hot midseason drama "The Unit" and
midseason comedy "The New Adventures of Old Christine" to its
previously announced roster of returning series, while veteran "The

I see that CBS is still conspicuously silent about "Close to Home".
Maybe they'll yank that one, even despite the ratings (I would).

I love the sound of this. But I suspect that this kind of show is likely

How many slots does CBS even need to fill? A couple of comedies? One
drama or two? And if they keep the Sunday movie, they'll pretty much
have the status quo.

looks like the one to beat on the comedy side. Meanwhile, the WB

Network's "Reba" is not expected to move to CW for a sixth season
after UPN and WB fold their tents in the fall.

Yay!
Meanwhile, over here, The CW is conspicuously silent about "One Tree
Hill"...
|
The show at present is wrapping up the first year of a two-year pickup
struck last year between WB and "Reba" producer 20th Century Fox TV,
which means its cancellation won't come cheap for CW. Sources said the
decision will cost CW as much as $20 million, including compensating
the studio for lost syndication revenues from the sixth-season
episodes that will not be produced.

Thank god NBC is FINALLY willing to budge and begin to put that old
horse out to pasture by moving it to it's death slot! Good idea to move
G.A. to 9 Sundays since the ever cooling D.H. should be moved to Mondays
and that 10PM time slot used to bolster a new series.
