Anyone watch this and the surprise ending last night and have any comments?
I thought the ending was seriously over the top and cannot understand why
Schwahn did it unless he wants to kill off the show for good.

I don't usually watch this but I TiVo'd it because the promo interested me.
I had watched enough in the past to know the basic relationships. I was
completely baffled as to why that happened!!

There's always the possibility that what happened is all in Dan's mind and
that it was what he was thinking about doing. I'd guess the next show that
airs at the end of March will have to pick up where this one left off. I've
read spoilers elsewhere that he essentially gets away with it and
ingratiates himself in Karen's life afterwards. I've also read the eps were
cut down to 18, and if true, there are only a couple left. Schwahn's been
telling people he thinks that OTH will be picked up because it does well in
the right demographics. However if they've cut back the eps to 18, I'd guess
OTH is going to end. Hopefully, they'll have an ending in place.
Back to Dan. He obviously thought Keith was the one that tried to kill him
with the fire, even though it was Deb. Also they set this up by having Dan
essentially stalk Keith and Karen. But then they distracted the viewers by
having Dan appear to overcome and get over his issues over the last ep or
so. Schwahn likes to stir the pot with fakeouts and then do a reset from
time to time. Other than that I have no clue why Schwahn did what he did
especially if the show is ending. He could have just as easily paired
everyone up and let them live happily ever after.

There's 2 possibilities:
1) Craig Sheffer wants out (wise!), and so the shooting really happened.
Or,
2) It's another one of OTH's cheap cop-outs, and next episode we'll find
out it was all Dan's fantasy.
But, as you point out in your other post, I think this is all moot - I
strongly suspect that OTH will *not* make it to The CW.
Ian (Heck, I think even "*Charmed*" is more likely to make it to The
CW!!)
