If, like me you don't normally watch Letterman unless the guest is
someone you REALLY care about and Hugh is one of those people be sure
to tune in!
I hope Letterman actually has a conversation like Kimmel and Furguson
do and that he doesn't just try and plow through the segment like with
most of the interviews he conducts.

Typical Letterman! Hugh gets one segment, 35 minutes in, and the the
rest of the show is easily forgettable material.

I watched it last night, thanks to your posting. I never watch
Letterman, so it was a fine interview as far as I'm concerned. I liked
listening to him talk English instead of American. Why couldn't they
have incorporated that into HOUSE? For what reason did he *have* to be
American?

And kudos to Paul for his traditional guest-inspired musical intro,
"Our House" by Madness.
|
Also, he's much hotter on tape than on film. Or maybe using his natural
accent makes him seem that way.

He conducts interviews? I'll be damned. never seen one. All I see him
do is get people on and then use them to play straight man to his lame
attempts at humor.

Maybe in the old days, but I think he's become a very good interviewer.
He's done some great interviews since his son was born. Think it's from
being interested in the world beyond himself.

If he's interviewing someone with a baby, he can have a nice, natural
conversation about their common interest. He's also pretty good when he
gets news people or politicians on. But most of his celebrity
interviews are relatively forgettable.

As well they should be. But it seems these days, if he can find a
interesting topic with a celebrity he'll go for stretches where he's
not afraid to be serious with them. This wasn't the case in the past.

Which is what happened with Hugh Laurie. It turned out that Hugh's
father was quite notable in a timely fashion -- he was an Olympic gold
medalist in rowing, as well as a real doctor. So they spent most of the
interview talking about his father, rather than silly celebrity banter.

My brother says that Laurie on Letterman was a rerun from a few
weeks ago. I say it was new. Who wins?

Thanks! (I only saw the interview, no other part of the show.)

Another point is that it's sweeps, they don't usually do reruns.
And the Wahoo Gazette web page always indicates the original air date
for reruns.

|
a good tipoff.

If it did get serious, he'd have to end it quickly with a joke and move
on. As was mentioned.
