I've always had hobbies. Contrary to Corporate America,
who want to convince people that they "have no time" to do anthing
today (in order to sell them the latest do all cell phone) people have
more free time today than they did in the past.

Apart from the fact that this year, unlike in the past, networks have
aired new episodes of most of their shows against the olympics you're
correct. Any ruining happened decades ago, but poor ratings for
anything other then figure skating is resulting in fewer repeats being
aired on the other networks.

All the big reality TV shows are offering new episodes during the
Olympics as usual. Reality TV doesn't usually have interspersed rerun
episodes. So American Idol is first-run (and is, in fact, beating the
Olympics in the ratings).
This week, Lost had a first-run new episode too.
