I think I'm giving up on this. I'm probably just burned out on crime shows,
Donna B...
but it seems to be the same story every episode, her bureau against everyone
else. Even the crime isn't that interesting. I don't care much for the
personal relationship stuff either.

ditto. I was looking forward to this but the only good thing about it was I
ended up watching Saved afterwards, which I quite liked.
Donna B...
|
Hmmm.
I loved it. Chief Deputy Brenda was in fine form last night if you ask me.
Passed on SAVED. Also loved having an actual hour of show! And, as is
sometimes the case with THE CLOSER I couldn't figure out who did it for a
very long while & didn't really figure out HOW he did it until she did plus
I couldn't see how she was going to get the confession he needed. Perfect
episode if you ask me. However, the only other crime show I watch as must
see is L&O:SVU, COLD CASE sometimes, WITHOUT A TRACE sometimes, nothing
else.

No, I knew the moment she asked Companion Protector Boone to "assist" that
he was the guilty one. Otherwise I thought it was good, tho her against pert
near everyone else is starting to get a little old. After the first season
you'd think it would have tamped down--tho I still never understood why she
seemed so cavalier about a cop's body lying in the heat next to the killer
for so long.

I enjoyed the episode and will welcome some original programming this
summer, since everything else this summer seems to be complete crap
(aside from Rescue Me).

Same here... it's going to be a long summer drought of good TV fare.

Donna B...

What you said! And, THE 4400.
|
I knew the old partner had done it just as soon as Brenda enlisted his
"help" in the new partner's questioning. Probably just because that's
Barry Margolin...

I had a feeling it was him the moment he showed up in the episode. I
didn't have anything about the case figured out, it just seemed like he
was the least obvious culprit, so it was the likely twist.

There's also the problem that the guest star that is most well known
is usually the guilty party on any of these police shows.
Lava...

Before he even showed up they pointed out where he was (in the hospital) -
alibi. New then, that they would find out some way to break the alibi.

Ken from Chicago...
|
It's a variation of Chekov's law. Typically the only non-obvious culprit
turns out to be the culprit since there's little time and money to have
multiple guest stars so the one that remains is the one who's guilty.

the cliche on this show and a thousand other procedural (whoever they
"think" did it at 25 minutes of the hour is definately NOT the one who
did it).

I didn't get suspicious of him, until he started giving his answers to be
fed to Brenda. I'm kind of slow. ;)
|
Donna B...

I knew he had done it in the scene before she went to ask that of him.

Ditto.

Ditto too. I knew he was a factor, but not sure how. That's OK, though.
It's more interesting when you can see the detective thinking things
out, and you begin to see how the lead character(s) think. That's
better than having some surprise, last-minute character be the culprit
or some such nonsense.
|
|
But that didn't interfer with my enjoyment of the show. Kyra's a joy to
watch and just so darn cute with her little southern drawl. I love the
way her girly sweet demeanor contrasts with her steely determination.
Arthur Lipscomb...

I knew the old partner did it as soon as I saw he was played by Boone, I
mean Kevin Kilner. Rule of thumb, if you recognize the guest star actor
from somewhere else, he or she is probably the killer. Even though I found
the plot confusing at times, it was still a great episode. Glad it's back.

I followed the plot. It was confusing. It could have been better written.
But I still think overall it was worth watching. I find it funny that her
weakness is now chocolate, when before it seemed to be junk food. Does
anyone remember before Kyra struggling to open the packet of crackers and
(heart disease invoking, cholestorol-filled) cheese?
Now they write her an chocolate addicted woman. That seems to be the
cliche' here.

I really like the show, but I hate KS' "southern drawl"... it drives me
crazy. [Being a southerner I can't help it.] Liking all the characters
helps me overlook it. :)

Oh, yeah! Last year I was put off by one thing - her Magnolia Mouth. But,
she has toned it down - thank goodness!

Yes, the positively delightful Southern accent is a rarity on tv.

Definitely part of the charm of the show. She doesn't over do it
either. I also like how there's some definition to the other characters
Brandy Alexandre...

The sugar addition was one of the interesting things about her
character. Quirky and all hers. Dumping that isn't a very good idea
either.
Was that a different cat? You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to find
a similar looking longhair tabby.
Side note: In the case of my sister's new kitten, it would be hard to
replace. The kitty is named "Twix" short for Betwixt and Between.
It's hard to tell if she's a tabby striped calico, or a calico patched
tabby. Bit of a patchwork.

of the squad. Still, they are going to have to work hard to keep it
from getting into the typical-cop-show-rut.

Plus I liked SAVED afterward. It was a nice bonus.

Yes, there were some cute scenes in that show. The gorilla in the front
seat while the bus was rocking back and forth. That cracked me up.
The back-flash of the lives of the individuals getting help was an
interesting twist too. It's more involved than just the mania of ER
(never cared for that show), but in a very tight and efficient way.
But in the end, what really counted is that it had some excellent
music. Brilliant use of Cash.

Wow. This Summer's turning out to be a big *bust* so far.
"The 4400" and "The Closer" are both turning people *way* off in their
premieres.
I'm quickly losing what little patience I had with "Falcon Beach"
(having only three (barely) sympathetic characters is a bad way to start
a show, esp. when two of your three leads are *not* in the "sympathetic"
or "interesting" category!).
"Hex" and "Windfall" are being rated by most as disappointments. (FTR: I
haven't viewed "Windfall" yet.)
Frankly, the only new show I'm sort of enjoying is "Beyond the Break".
(And I think most fans still seem to be happy with "Rescue Me".)
But, at this point, I think a lot of us are relying on "The Dead Zone"
to turn things around. (I'm also looking forward to "Whistler".)
IOW, things aren't looking good so far...
