Adult Swim Orders More Boondocks for '06
Anthony Crupi

Adult Swim has ordered a second season of its controversial animated
series The Boondocks, which is slated to begin running sometime in
late 2006.

The network signed on for 20 new episodes of the series, based on
Aaron McGruder's syndicated comic strip of the same name.

The Boondocks has been a ratings winner for Adult Swim since it
debuted on Nov. 6, 2005 to 2.3 million viewers, making it the
highest-rated series premiere in the five-year history of the network.

That said, the show does have its detractors. On Tuesday the Rev. Al
Sharpton demanded an apology from Cartoon Network after a recent
installment of The Boondocks depicted an animated Rev. Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. dropping the N-Bomb. "If we don't receive an apology,
we will picket the corporate headquarters," Sharpton said.

A Cartoon Network spokesperson said that the episode "in no way was
meant to offend or desecrate the name of Dr. King."
