The West Wing tonight featured a brief discussion about why January 20
(dead of winter in the Northern Hemisphere) was selected as the US
Presidential Inauguration Day.
Bartlet blames it on Jefferson, et al.
However, in Jefferson's day, March 4 was Inauguration Day, not January
20. The 20th Amendment changed the date in the 1930s.

I was watching live, so I'm not certain, but I think they got first
few words of the presidential oath wrong too.

I've got it on DVR. Let's see . . .
"Please raise your hand and repeat after me:
I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the
President of the United States."
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the
President of the United States."
"And will to the best of my ability"
"And will to the best of my ability"
"Preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States"
"Preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States"
"So help me God"
"So help me God"
"Ask not what you can do for your country" didn't originate with Kennedy,
either. Remember the days when Bartlet would have KNOWN this stuff? :-)
