With there being some talk about WB not wanting
Studio 60 on Thursday at 9, NBC might be looking
to shifting it elsewhere. Here's a redo of what I think
could work all around:
MON
8:00 Deal or No Deal
9:00 ER
10:00 Studio 60
9 pm looks like a safe spot for ER to move into,
protected by a strong DOND lead-in. This, in turn,
could hand over a decent amount of viewers to Studio
60, which should do pretty well opposite the limp-noodle
likes of What About Brian.

I like Monday at 10 for STUDIO 60 a lot. I can watch it, tape CSI:
HORATIO, and forget about Brian.

TUE
8:00 Heroes
9:00 Medium
10:00 Law & Order: SVU
The 8-10 pm block here will probably do not much
worse nor not that much better than the original
Friday Night Lights and Kidnapped placements, so
nothing is really won or lost here.
WED
8:00 Friday Night Lights
9:00 The Biggest Loser
10:00 Law & Order: SVU
Biggest Loser is the sacrifical 9 pm lamb and Friday
Night Lights might stand a better chance opposite
the new, but feeble-looking, Jericho and the tepid
Bones than against NCIS and FOX's new Standoff on
Tuesday. Either night, FNL will still face off Dancing
with the Stars, though, but so be it.
THU
8:00 Las Vegas
9:00 Deal or No Deal
10:00 Kidnapped

NBC already plans to chop its restored two-hour Thursday sitcom block
in half, and you want them to dismantle it completely? Bad idea!
|
Deal or No Deal seems to perform well no matter
where it's placed so it can probably be used to
some good effect at 9. It won't steal the hour but
it counterprograms better and might actually
outperform Studio 60 in the drama-heavy slot. Las
Vegas is deemed as an appropriate pairing with
DOND in that gambling is a shared theme. And
needless to mention, Kidnapped gets a stronger
lead-in out of DOND than Friday Night Lights on
Tuesday, in addition to being slotted opposite two
other new shows, which can only increase its
chances of success, especially opposite ABC's
dubious Six Degrees. CBS's Shark would win the
hour almost by default, however.
FRI
8:00 20 Good Years
8:30 My Name Is Earl
9:00 30 Rock
9:30 The Office
10:00 Law & Order: CI

You want them to dump their sitcoms on Friday? Worse idea!
David Levy...

Then feel free to record your favorite comedies and watch them on
Friday. Adult-oriented sitcom lineups haven't worked on this night in
years, and even the family/teen-oriented sitcoms no longer seem to
perform well.

Yes, and you arrogantly base some of your proposed scheduling upon
this fact.
Those are two of the best-reviewed comedies on television, and the
Nielsen ratings have been very strong (particularly among key
demographics). In this context, your personal opinions of them are

Didn't you just indicate that you "don't give a squiggly-wiggly over
what the critics say about any show"?
|
David Levy...
|
1. It's ludicrous to claim that only a sitcom ranked among the 20 best
from the past 55 years can be regarded as "great."
2. You don't seem to understand. In this context, ONLY the Nielsen
ratings matter. Your opinion, my opinion, and all of the critics'
opinions of the shows' quality are irrelevant.

I addressed this in an earlier thread ("Will NBC move Studio 60?"):

meaningless (as are mine).
|
|
Both ABC and FOX look weak with their 8-10 pm
scheduling so NBC should take advantage of that
weakness by slotting all its sitcoms here. I'd lead
the new ones into the returning ones since the
former seem to be stronger in appeal than the
latter and can thus help Earl and Office better than
the other way around.

Both "20 Good Years" and "30 Rock" are highly promising, but the
notion that they should be regarded as "stronger in appeal" than two
established hits is utterly preposterous.

Yes, to you...which doesn't mean a damn thing.
I'm not even going to bother quoting or replying to your arguments
based entirely upon how bad "The Office" is. It's the Nielsen ratings
that matter.
|
It took some time for "The Office" to find mainstream popularity, and
I agree that it isn't ready to serve as a lead-in. It deserves to be
sheltered for at least another season.
"20 Good Years" is the only series of the four that will be shot
before a studio audience in the conventional multi-camera style, so an
8:00 placement (allowing the three single-camera-style shows to air
uninterrupted) seems appropriate. "My Name Is Earl," however, is a
proven lead-in, so it would be ridiculous to stick it at 8:30. It
also would be potentially detrimental to "The Office" to separate it
from the series that helped to pull its ratings out of the gutter.
"30 Rock" might be a hit in the making, but that remains to be seen.
NBC should simpy broadcast their announced sitcom pairings ("20 Good
Years"/"30 Rock) and "My Name Is Earl"/"The Office") back-to-back...ON
THURSDAY, NOT FRIDAY!

SAT
8:00 Dateline
9:00 Repeats
SUN
7-11 Football
Looks good to me. It's all yours, NBC. My bill will be in the mail
shortly.
