What happened to Chris Carter?

I always thought that Chris Carter would be a regular producer on TV
maybe not big like Bochco or Bruckheimer but someone who would steadily
produce shows.
Since the conclusion of X-Files he seemed to have vanished. He created,
directed and produced some excellent shows - X-Files and Millenium - a
true hidden gem.

Chris Carter produced one hit & three flops (in terms of
ratings/viewers).
X-Files = hit
Millenium = flop

I wouldn't consider Millenium a flop.
And you left out the X-Files movie - one of the few crossovers that was
a hit in its own right.
And AFAIK, he's working on the next X-Files movie now.

Calling Millenium a flop isn't accurate at all. It ran for 3 seasons
and 67 episodes. Yes, it probably lasted longer than it would have had
videonovels...

I clearly stated "in terms of ratings/viewers". Millenium's network
numbers were worse than Star Trek TNG or DS9 (non-network shows). It
was consistently at the bottom of the chart. Both those facts are sad.
As you say, if Fox had not been trying to pump-up Chris Carter and/or
find a show to complement the X-Files, Millenium would have been axed
during the first year. It lacked viewers.

It wouldn't have been on 3 years if the ratings were at least OK. Fox
isn't that generous (ask Reunion fans, Skin fans, etc.....)

If the ratings were THAT bad they wouldn't have left it on for 3 years.

FOX not been trying to stay in CC's good graces. But that's a pretty
good run, considering the vast majority of shows never see a second
season.

I think the network allowed him to keep it because he was going to sue
them for a fortune, or they were trying to renegotiate the contracts or
something. It was more of a pet than a viable program. Note they
weren't so kind to SPACE, which Glen Morgan left X-Files for.

new kinda anemic surge of Sci-Fi shows since Lost one would think he
would have been given a project.

David Kelley had quite a run of highly successful quirky shows and then a
run of failures. Does he have any new shows anywhere? You can't count Boston
Legal since it's a continuation of another show.

Wow, I was just thinking about that not too long ago. IMDB, the usual
friend for these sorts of things gives few clues, he almost no credits
after 2002. It IS shocking he hasn't done more since. Let's hope it's
because he's surfing, with these Hollywood types there's one other
common reason they drop off the map.
