Know any examples of television series whose views of certain professions
and trades were influenced by the fact that the show's creator once worked
in that profession?

I'm sure that some of the difficulties the contestants encounter trying
to survive on "Survivor," were based on Mark Burnett's own experience
living off the land as a paratrooper in the British Army. If he could
dig a hole and use leaves instead of a toilet with toilet paper, so
could they.
BTW, the TV show "Lost" was influenced by the prior profession of one of
its actresses. The subplot in which Kate steals a mysterious toy plane
was written because Evangeline Lilly, who plays Kate, had been a flight
attendant before becoming an actress.
