I was busy with other tasks but watched Malcolm out of the corner of my eye
last evening.
IMO: the writers need someone to slap them beside their respective heads!
Maybe the problem is that the "Kids" are all just getting TOO DAMN OLD to be
part of a "Family Sitcom."
I guess it's time to pull the plug of Malcolm the same way the plug was
pulled on "Married with Children."

Malcolm jumped the shark several seasons ago. I can't pin point exactly
when, but it's been bad for some time.

Well, for me (and my family) that show has been pretty good up to now.
I still believe that better writing might be able to keep it going until
Malcolm actually goes off to college. After that, it's "Dukie Howser"
again.
Frankly, I enjoy it when writers are shameless about taking plots from other
sources. Reese joining the Army was right out of the Comics: "Shoe!"
where Skylar always seems to get sidetracked from summer camp into USMC
Basic Training (Boot Camp.)
Even though I am the OP, I did enjoy the recruiter from MIT (Mississippi
Institute of Technology!). There are still a few more possibilities for
episodes bringing in the crazy in-laws.
I have liked the show and I hate to see it go so I am pulling for the
writers to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

You're busier than you realize. Fox network already announced that the
final "Malcolm in the Middle" episode will air in May.
