I am so sad watching Dick Clark. I didn't think he would be so bad. He
was the eternal teenager and I wish I had not seen him. He sounded so
old and he kept garbling words. Sadly he counted too fast at the end and
he reached 0 before the timer read zero.
Sometimes one should know when to quit. Sadly Clark didn't

I couldn't disagree more. First of all, yes it's true that Clark had a
stroke and was not pronouncing his words as clearly as he used to, but
if you listen to the content of what he said it was perfectly
appropriate and no different than anything he would have said in
previous years. The only difference is that his pronounciation wasn't
quite as good because of the stroke. And the thing about him counting

too fast, counting down sounds easier than it is because the
combination of the crowd chanting and sounding slightly off because of
the sound traveling (not to mention the general mayhem). Others
(including Clark) have had trouble with that in the past.
|
I will try to erase this memory and remember him as a happy, kind of
giddy, enthusiastic man he once was - The Eternal Teenager.

Guess what, he isn't the eternal teenager any more, he's a 76 year old
man. But rather than discarding him like a used tissue because he has
some health problems and is older than he used to be, they decided to
keep him on the air. Frankly, it takes a special kind of asshole to
say to someone, Sorry, because you're not as beautiful as you were when
you were younger and because you've had some health problems, we're not
going to use you any more.

I wish ABC had told him no. They should have. It looks like they used
him although Clark should have known better. Although when my aunt had a
stroke it affected her thinking maybe it affected his. Someone really
should have said "Dick sorry but you are not capable of doing this. Let
people remember you when you were so good."

Except that he was capable of doing it. Like I said, the content of
what he said was fine and perfectly appropriate for the occasion. It's
too bad that you were appearently unable to think about the meaning of
what he said and could only focus on the way he was saying it.
|
If Dick Clark did not have all his mental faculties then ABC exploited
him.

|
There was absolutely no evidence that Clark was suffereing mentally and
was unable to make a decision on his own.
|
My inclination is that ABC exploited him.

I'm sorry you feel that way.
