One of those folks who got it despite not being a smoker. Just goes to
show that Fate will screw you no matter what precautions you take.

It's possible that she spent some time working in a smoky environment. But
it does seem odd when a non-smoker gets lung cancer.

That's only because you've been brainwashed by the anti-smoking lobby
to believe that only evil cigarette smokers can be afflicted with the
disease and that all lung cancer patients deserve their fate.

Why? Welders, miners, many occupations put people at risk. Not to mention
ambient air pollution.

...and genetics.
About 1 in 5 women who get lung cancer were non-smokers. Like you say,
something as 'everyday' as ambient air pollution might tip the balance
for someone predisposed to this type of cancer.

Hadn't seen her for 25 years or so -- she was a few years behind me in
high school -- and didn't know her well then, though her older sister
was in my graduating class. Very nice people.
